The United States and Japan have has a reputation stemming from treaties signed in 1853, among the main leaders. In Asia, Japan was the first country to open its borders for American expansion of businesses. Both countries in the beginning supported the slow expansion of commercial trade in china. However, Japan seemed to have betrayed this treaty, by taking china into war. The decisions of the Japanese government coupled with the treatment of Chinese citizens in what many Americans considered as hostile ways; finally brought the once healthy relationship between the countries to a head.
