Conflict resolution is defined as a means for two or more individuals or groups to settle and find an effective solution to their disagreements in order to find peace. Wolff and Nagy state that conflicts exist in different forms, these include; emotional, financial, personal and political conflicts. According to Wolff and Nagy, conflict resolution is based on three key objectives. First of all, producing a solution that concurs with all the parties involved. Secondly, conflict resolutions are objected towards working as fast as possible towards finding a solution. Thirdly, Wolff and Nagy point out that improving and building the relationship between the individuals involved in the conflict is key in objectifying conflict resolution.
Druckman and Diehl (2006) state that conflict resolution brings forth quite a number of beneficial merits in regards to all parties involved in a conflict. Conflict resolution brings forth a deeper level of understanding of vast beliefs, ideas as well as backgrounds (Druckman and Diehl, 2006). Secondly, conflict resolution ensures the growth and development of the relationship between opponents. Thirdly, Druckman and Diehl (2006) mention that conflict resolution provides a long-term peaceful solution towards critical situations.
Wolff and Nagy provide great insight on conflict resolution. Wolff and Nagy bring forth seven significant steps to undertake towards successfully establishing negotiations in resolving conflicts which are significantly appropriate and essential in conflicts that may arise in our world today. According to Wolff and Nagy, there are situations and cases where these set seven steps may not be as efficient.
All in all, with our ever-evolving and growing world society today conflict resolution is key in determining effective peaceful solutions which is always the best way forward for all the parties involved in any form of conflict.
