The relevance of Plakhotnik’s (2017) study on the pre-promotion preparation of novice managers and Driscoll and Watkins’s (2020) discourse on the challenges of remote onboarding of fresh leaders caught my attention, given the current state of the corporate landscape. Both pieces stress the need of strong leadership abilities and the necessity for firms to offer their new managers with the tools they need to succeed.

This data struck a chord with me because it emphasizes the importance of organizations in fostering the development of future leaders. According to Plakhotnik (2017), businesses should put resources into preparing future managers for leadership positions by giving them instruction, guidance, and practice. This kind of preemptive action may greatly improve the odds of success for new managers and boost the organization’s productivity as a whole.

However, with more and more people working remotely, Driscoll and Watkins (2020) discuss the special difficulties associated with remotely onboarding new leaders. They stress the need for open lines of communication, well-defined goals, and a solid foundation of resources and support for new leaders in a distributed workforce

I felt that I could have used more detail on topics like best practices for remote onboarding and specific methods and tools that businesses can utilize to help aspiring managers hone their leadership abilities.

The corporate world may benefit from these realizations by being more proactive in investing in their future leaders and by modifying their onboarding procedures to better accommodate telecommuting employees. As a professional, I may utilize this understanding to push for more in-person and online resources geared on fostering new managers’ leadership skills. Implementing these tactics at my workplace has the potential to improve our team’s performance and cohesion, which in turn will benefit our company’s bottom line.
